K-ETA (Korea Electronic Travel Authorization)

K-ETA stands for Korea Electronic Travel Authorization. It is an electronic travel authorization system implemented by the government of the Republic of Korea to simplify and expedite the process for eligible foreign nationals who wish to travel to Korea for short-term stays without obtaining a visa. The K-ETA system allows travelers to apply and receive approval for travel authorization online, instead of going through the traditional visa application process. The K-ETA is valid for a period of 2 years from the date of approval and permits a stay of up to 90 days in Korea.

  • Individuals who are eligible for K-ETA and desire to enter the Republic of Korea without a visa must acquire K-ETA approval before embarking on their flight or ship. It's important to note that the evaluation process may take longer than 72 hours, depending on various factors such as an influx of K-ETA applications or the applicants' specific circumstances. Thus, it is recommended that you apply for K-ETA well in advance to allow for sufficient processing time.
  • A K-ETA remains valid for a period of 2 years starting from the date of its approval, but it's important to note that the approval itself does not ensure entry into the Republic of Korea. The final decision regarding a traveler's entry will be made by an immigration official during the immigration inspection upon arrival.
  • If false or incorrect information is provided in a K-ETA application, the approval may be denied or revoked, and the applicant may face penalties or be prohibited from entering the country in accordance with the relevant laws of Korea. This also applies to individuals who apply on behalf of the actual applicant.
  • It is necessary to apply for a new K-ETA even if the current one has not yet expired if any changes are made to your personal details, including but not limited to your name, gender, date of birth, nationality, passport information (such as passport number and expiration date), and any updates to your infectious disease or criminal record.
  • In the event of any modifications to your purpose for entering the country, your address in Korea, or your contact details after receiving K-ETA approval, it is mandatory to update this information via the K-ETA website (under K-ETA application results - Edit Information) prior to your entry into Korea. Neglecting to take this action could lead to negative consequences such as being denied entry.
  • Individuals who have obtained K-ETA approval can enjoy a more streamlined process at entry immigration as they will not be required to complete and submit an arrival card upon arrival.
  • The option to apply for K-ETA through a proxy is available, allowing a single person to submit applications for up to 30 individuals and complete the payment in a single transaction.
